16 Nations Listed for the European Track Championship 2006 "But British Cycling send NO-ONE"

European Track Championship 2006 11.12 October in Ballerup Super Arena, Copenhagen.

16 Nations Listed for the European Track Championship 2006
Austria, Belgium, Czechosiovakia, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

But where is Great Britain in the list the Answer is they could not be bothered to send anybody.
British Under 23s & over 23s could gain worthwhile experience competing in these championships.A good learning curve for the future for them.
A European Derny,Motor Pace or Madison title.
Is highly valued in Europe.
As championships goes it is the next step up the ladder from National level and upwards.

Look at some of our British guys who hold down a full time job and win a British National Track title not once but many times. Not an easy thing to-do.Surely they deserve the right to compete for there country.A European title would mean so much more.

Every year the European Cycling Union send an invitation to British Cycling to send riders to compete in the Championship.
To my knowledge the last time British Cycling could be bothered to send any riders to compete in the Championship was in the European Derny Championship which was held at Newport Velodrome in Wales.
Won by Bradley Wiggins. It was also very sad that Bradley could not defend his European title which was again to be held at the Newport Velodrome in 2004 but the
Championships was cancelled due to lack of money.

It seems to me that the riders British Cycling would be willing to send to these Championship have to be conected with The World Class Performance Plan in some way.If the rider is a National Champion but not conected with the World Class Performance Plan then he does not get a look in does he!!.

It seems very one sided to me.And very unfair and unsporting behavour by British Cycling.

Lets hope in 2007 Britain will send some riders and support the The European Cycling Union (UEC) European Championships at all levels.

The European Cycling Union (UEC)
is a continental confederation of the UCI.
The UEC unites currently 47 countries which includes Great Britain.

If all the Cycling Nations did not send anybody to any European Championship or Worlds or Olympics because they thought they could not win then the sport would die-out.
